Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that is not on this FAQ please contact us at cs@otistec.com!

Q. Why choose Otis?

A. Otis manufactures high quality U.S.A. made products which carry a Lifetime Warranty.  Otis cleaning systems are compact & lightweight – they can be worn on your belt while in the field or tossed in your pack for later use.   All components are made of brass which will not scratch or damage your firearm, as it is a softer material than the metal of your bore.

Otis is proud to be on the front lines with the many men and women in our Military & Law Enforcement Agencies.  All Otis products are manufactured to the highest quality standards.

Q. What is the advantage of Otis’ Breech-to-Muzzle® cleaning over the traditional method?

A. By properly cleaning Breech-to-Muzzle®, dirt and fouling is pulled out the muzzle in the natural direction of the bullet; always away from the chamber and receiver, not pushed back into the action. By cleaning muzzle to breech this can gum up the trigger and cause malfunctions.  Conventional rods can jam off-center, scraping the rifling in the process and potentially ruining the crown or the bore.   The plastic coating on Otis’ Memory Flex® cables prevent scraping of the rifling.

Q. What is the right Otis cleaning system for me?

A. Otis carries a variety of cleaning systems to clean a vast arrangement of firearms.  Click here to use our System Selector to determine which Otis cleaning system fits your needs.

Q. How do I tie a patch on the slotted tip?

A. Otis patches are unique in that they can be reused up to six times! If you are using Otis’ 2” Patches, insert the brass slotted tip through one of the slots in the patch. If you are using Otis’ 3” Patches, insert the brass slotted tip through one of the outer slots (to make a swab for a .22 - . 27 cal. firearm) or one of the inner slots (to make a swab for a .30 - .50 cal. firearm & all shotguns).  For shotguns only, slide the rubber patch saver® over the slotted tip.  Take a pinch on the patch and slide it through the slot on the tip.  **Note:The closer to the brass tip you pinch, the smaller the swab you will create**  Pull tightly on the tip of the patch and then tighten the knot by tugging on the top of the patch.  You have just created a swab that will give you 360 degree coverage in your barrel.  Click here to view videos providing step by step instructions.

Q. I got my patch stuck in my firearm, how do I get it out?

A. Saturate the patch with solvent from both ends of the barrel.  Let it sit overnight.  If patch is still connected to the cable, you should be able to pull it out.  If patch is still stuck, attach the obstruction remover onto one end of the Memory Flex® cable.  Insert into barrel and tap repeatedly until patch breaks free.  It can take some time for the patch to break free.
